19 days

Did you ever have so much you wanted to do, but never the time to do it? And then did you ever suddenly have all the time in the world to accomplish all of those things? And then the problem turned into where to begin? That is where I find myself today.

There are books to read, shopping to be done, crafts to do, cookies to bake, and a plethora of other activities I want to do. I have 19 days of free time until I have to go back to school. Where do I start? Although it's nearly three weeks time, I feel like it is much less.

No more sitting around for most of the day. I need to take advantage of every minute. I need to plan my free time like I plan my school time, or I'll just be wandering about the house accomplishing little, if not nothing.

I'm going to accomplish one of the things I've been wanting to do every day until I have to return to good old Cedar City and the monotony of life at SUU.

Creativity

I just had an intense desire to be a creative person.

I want to be creative. And talented.

I'm jealous of all those people out there who can just create things. Art, music, quilts, and other things. If you're one of those people, congratulations.

I have never been like you. I have never considered myself to be creative OR talented really. I really, really, really just want to have some kind of talent. I also secretly believe that I will be passed up by men because I am not as talented as you are.

I genuinely believe that I don't have any unique praiseworthy talents. I need some time to think about this. It's going to require quite a bit of thought. I'll get back to you on this.

Semesterly Reflections

Yes, it's been a few months.

I have been unbelievably busy with school, work, friends, and club obligations. That's really how I viewed everything this semester. Obligations.
Obligation
b. A course of action imposed by society, law, or conscience by which one is bound or restricted.

Bound? Restricted? Yes. All of the above. I didn't feel any sort of freedom in my schedule. No room to create, or do something just for myself. I felt like I was just sort of stuck. Not really moving anywhere or progressing.

It wasn't until later when I was talking to my dad on the phone that I began to reflect on how far I have come this semester. I think it's necessary to sit down occasionally and take inventory of your own awesomeness. So, here are the top ten things I have learned this semester.

10. I can wake up thirty minutes before I need to be on campus and still be on time.
9. I am NOT a morning person. But that's okay.
8. I have learned a lot from dancing over my life about hard work, but I'm ready to let go, and I don't feel sad, but, rather, enriched.
7. I have natural leadership skills, and it is fun to help change people.
6. My best friend is amazing! I'm cool by association.
5. I've learned that it's okay to say no to boys who ask you out on dates. If you don't see potential, and aren't interested, say no and move on. I won't let anyone tell me how to date.
4. I won't let anyone tell me how to live.
3. It is more plausible for me to drop my phone in the toilet than I suspected...
2. When your roommate asks you if they can get a turtle, say no.
1. I can do hard things.

Twilight. If you're one of the many die-hard fans of this mysteriously popular fad, I am warning you now, this post probably isn't for you. Keep reading. Or not.

I was thinking about what I could write that would possibly be of interest to anyone actually reading my blog, and wasn't having any success. This morning when I woke up, virtually ever post that showed up in my facebook news feed was about the Twilight saga's "Eclipse, which premiered at midnight last night.

Personally, I've never read Twilight or seen any of the movies, but I know enough about them to know I'm not missing out on anything. From what I understand, Twilight's main character is one with little personality. Bella Swan is a whiny nobody who doesn't deserve either the sparkly Edward, or the hairy Jacob. Neither is human. Poor Bella can't decide which of them she wants to sleep with. The only thing more sad than Stephanie Meyer's plot is the fans who obsess over it, wearing those "Team Edward", or "Team Jacob" t-shirts and hats. Ironically, they're all Team Pathetic.

Then a bright shining ray of hope showed up in my facebook news feed.

This link is really a refreshing take on Twilight, and examines what some women are internalizing and not even realizing it. The writer also reviews with, "if you were to take the first scene of the film and the last scene of the film and set them side by side, cutting everything in between, there is no difference in where Edward and Bella find themselves." I strongly suggest reading it.

Undoubtedly, if you are a Twilight fan and are still reading this, you may be upset, or possibly you one of the few who hate it, or even rarer, a lucky person who has never read or seen it. If you fall into one of these catagories (you do) leave a comment. I want to know what you think.

Who am I? My name is Brenna. I'm a Junior at a small University in the midwest, specifically Southern Utah University. I'm majoring in broadcast communications, which means I'll be trying to use a lot of multi-media on my blog to keep things interesting. I'll try to be funny (probably won't always succeed), and give you deep thoughts, along with shallow ideas.
